2015 St John Tertiary Scholarships

St John is pleased to announce St John Tertiary Scholarships for 2015. These will be available to all St John people undertaking study in 2015. There are currently two scholarship opportunities open for applications:

  1. Tertiary Study Scholarships
  2. AUT Paramedicine Degree Sponsorships

 

1. Tertiary Study Scholarships

There are up to five scholarships per year, each up to $3,000, open to all St John people (including paid, volunteer and youth). These scholarships are open to any course of study as long as it is with a recognised education provider in New Zealand and is relevant to St John and the area that the paid/volunteer person works in. Applicants must show a proven commitment to study by going into their second year of study or higher.

Criteria
- For study undertaken in 2015 year
- Studying a recognisable tertiary qualification (of more than one year), or a relevant education programme 
- For second year of study or higher
- At least two years' service with St John 
- Acceptable performer (not undergoing disciplinary action)
- Academic standard (academic record provided)
- Support from manager, and Regional GM or Director
- Study will provide some benefit to your role with St John 
- Individual’s future potential to contribute to St John / the community 
- Commitment to St John for at least two years post-scholarship
- Not awarded for AUT Paramedicine study (alternative sponsorship programme available)

2. AUT Paramedicine Degree Sponsorships

AUT will be offering St John 20 individual Paramedicine degree papers per year, which are available to all St John people undertaking study in that year.

There are up to 20 individual papers per year (tuition only, clinical activity fees not included), open to all St John people studying towards a Bachelor in Health Science in Paramedicine with AUT (including paid and volunteer). Applicants must show a proven commitment to study by studying papers that are level 6 or above, of their degree.

St John Contribution

St John will support successful recipients by providing the following:
Paid staff:
- Support recipients to attend tutorials, block courses and exam/s associated with the paper they applied for by awarding an additional total of up to 4 days professional development leave (in addition to existing leave entitlements). Awarding of this additional leave will be at St John’s discretion on a case by case basis (an individual’s current leave balance/history will be taken into account when considering whether to award additional leave allowance).


Paid and volunteer:
- St John will also pay successful recipients a contribution towards expenses associated with the study up to the combined value of $500 per recipient. These costs may contribute towards the following expenses: textbooks, reimbursement of travel costs and/or clinical placement costs (all relating to the relevant paper)

Criteria
- For study undertaken in 2015 year
- Enrolled in level 6 papers or above of Paramedicine degree with AUT
- At least two years' service with St John 
- Acceptable performer (not undergoing disciplinary action or an upheld adverse clinical incident)
- Academic standard (academic record provided)
- Support from Territory Manager and District Operations Manager 
- Commitment to St John by undertaking additional responsibilities/activities
- Individual’s future potential to contribute to St John / the community 
- Commitment to St John for at least two years post-sponsorship

Priority
Priority will be given to:
- Students close to completion of degree (semester 5 or 6 papers of BHSc (Paramedicine)
- Students who can offer a level of mobility in relation to future employment (e.g. willing to relocate)
- Those whose financial issues may currently be a barrier to study (hardship)
